Guest Post & Giveaway with Jessica E. Subject

I am so pleased to welcome author and my good friend Jessica E. Subject. Jessica has written an amazing post for us today about going from book blogger to author. She has also been nice enough to give away her amazing book Celestial Seduction (check out my review HERE ) and some awesome swag. So please give a warm welcome to Jessica.

Thank you so much, Diana for inviting me to guest post on your blog!
--
Over a year ago, with some convincing from my web savvy cousin, I joined Facebook and shortly after, Twitter. I had already been writing for over a year, but knew nothing about the publishing industry. I followed and friended as many authors as I could find, traditionally, self-, and e-published.

I learned a lot and continue to do so every day. Many of the posts I read emphasized that all authors should have their own website. So, even though I had nothing published, I started my first blog (with help from my sister-in-law).

Thinking I had a lot of things to say about the stories I’d written and the things I’d learned, I figured blogging would be easy. Honestly, I couldn’t think of much that others would really care about. Instead, I started writing quick book reviews about the books I’d read. I started getting more hits and even requests from authors to review their books. I thought I’d hit the jackpot. I mean, people were giving me FREE BOOKS!! Then I became involved in book blog tours.

I continued to write and learn as well, joining a critique group and finding some online critique partners as well. And then I learned about Six Sentence Sunday, a fabulous venue for published and aspiring authors to showcase their writing.

Through this resource, I connected with many fabulous authors, bought and enjoyed books I may not have read otherwise and learned about Decadent Publishing’s 1 Night Stand series.

On the day I drew the names of the winners for my one-year Blogoversary draw, I also received a contract in my inbox for Celestial Seduction, the short novella I submitted to Decadent with hopes of it being a part of their 1NS series.

Since then, my blogging habits have changed, as well as the layout of my blog. I have less time for author interviews and book reviews (although I still post some), opting instead for guest blogs and book features. And for some reason, I have even more giveaways than before, some my own and others offered by my blog guests.

It’s been quite a ride, and I realize the journey is different for everyone. I’m glad I went this route before being published though, as the friendships I’ve made are invaluable and the lessons I’ve learned, imperative.

Celestial Seduction blurb:
At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

Now Available From:
§  Decadent Publishing (in multiple ebook formats)

  7. As much as I like to write, writing a blog seems a bit daunting. I think that finding enough fresh ideas to keep it interesting would be a bit difficult. Congratulations on your success!

  8. @Melissa - Thanks for stopping by. I hope when you get home from work you are able to immerse yourself in a good book.

@Maureen - Social Networking does take up a lot of time. The trick is to find a balance, which I'm still working on.

@Kathleen - Thank you! All of the authors from Decadent have been very welcoming as well as many others.

  9. 2Jessica - You are more than welcome hon. You have been such a great friend and I am more than proud to be a supporter :) Great post. Thank you so much for doing this again. I am still dipping my feet in the actual writing world, but social networking has helped a lot for me. Getting emails from authors I never heard of, being offered review copies for books and all, it is incredible. But your journey has been amazing. Sure it does take time, but it is worth it and it is always great the amount you of help you get from the reading community :)

@Leanne - Blogging is tiring, but I love it too :)

@Amanda - So with you, it is daunting, but I keep coming back. Coming up with new ideas is difficult, true, but I just stick to the reviews in the mean time LOL!

Due to the daily spam comments I have been getting lately and to avoid the annoying word verification, Anonymous comments are no more. I do not want bargains on bags, watches, jerseys, boots and other crap. Geez, they could at least spam me with book and movie stuff, I would be somewhat interested LOL! Thank you :D
