Let's get the ball rolling.

Have you ever been somewhere, anywhere, when you sense the heat of someone’s gaze on you? You glance across a crowded club and find him staring at you. Or maybe it’s in a huge lecture hall, and suddenly you become aware that you’re being watched. You raise your eyes from your laptop to find his eyes narrowed on you. He doesn’t look away either. You feel not only your face flushing, but the rest of your body begins to burn. He doesn’t smile, he just stares and something shifts in his gaze. You can’t seem to look away. You’re caught in his snare, but you want to be. The professor wraps up the lecture and the two of you haven’t even noticed. The room empties and you’re now alone with him.

He never looks away as he moves toward you. You finally notice that he’s tall and lean, dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His dark brown hair is long and shaggy which makes you want to reach out and comb your fingers through it. He takes the seat next to you and reaches for your hand. You suck in your breath when he touches you because the warmth from his hand spreads straight to your belly and fans out everywhere. He smiles and you’ve just felt like the sun has entered the room. He’s beautiful. Paralyzing so. You don’t know anything about him but you know you would follow him anywhere right this second. That’s the kind of effect he has on you.

"Hello." He even has a perfect voice...deep and rich. You want to throw your arms around him and hug him, right before you kiss his perfect lips. But you do none of the above. You hang back, hesitate and act aloof, because that’s what society says you should do. That’s what all your friends would tell you to do. Even though it would risk losing the chance of a lifetime, you do it anyway. Even though people say insta-love doesn’t exist. So you act like you don’t really care. You introduce yourself to him, tell him it was nice meeting him, get up and walk to your next class. And never stop thinking about what could’ve been...

One day on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn’t do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life. So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase. Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodgeball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head. Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window. She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone and hit #4 on her speed dial.

“Boss, is that you?”
“Why yes A.M., who else would be answering my phone?”
“Er… right. Well, I’m calling to let you know you can pick up my luxury Ford Focus at Starbucks near the interstate because I quit.”

A.M. hit the end button and speed dialed her husband.

“Hi hubs, can you pick me up at Starbucks?”
“Sure hon… having some car trouble?”
“Not at all. I need a ride because I just quit my job.”
“You WHAT?!”
“It’s time for a new career and I am going to be a very famous novelist.”

So began A. M. Hargrove’s career as a young adult paranormal romance author of self-published ebooks.

Well, it didn’t happen exactly like that. The real story is that after years as a successful sales manager in the world of pharmaceuticals, her company was gobbled up by a larger one and her career came to a screeching halt. Always one to look at the glass as being half full, she took the job loss as an opportunity to forge down the path of her life-long dream– that of becoming a writer. Her series, The Guardians of Vesturon, centers around a family of six siblings and is a mix of humor, mystery, suspense and of course, love. The books in the series are listed in order: Beginnings (a prequel novella), Survival, Resurrection and Determinant.  Beginnings can be read at any time and Determinant, even though it is the third book in the series, can be read as a stand alone novel.

Synopsis from Goodreads

Attention: This is an ADULT Book!

Dark Waltz--A sizzling legend of loss, lust and love.

It’s the year 2030 and the human population has been annihilated by a virulent form of small pox. Liasare Davidson is desperately searching for her brother, who has been missing for three months. It’s been eighteen years since she was evacuated from Earth and she is horrified to see it’s become a cesspool of unimaginable things.

In her quest to find her brother, she meets Jurek, a powerful and enigmatic being that frightens her, yet she is unable to resist. When things begin to unfold between them, they both discover a paralyzing truth that puts Liasare at grave risk. She must make a choice to join Jurek and find her brother or fulfill a role she believes she is ill equipped to undertake.

In the year 2030, Earth is in shambles. Due to a terrible outbreak, the human population has decreased immensely. Not only that, but it has been taken over by Xanthians. They run Earth and most of its humans. When a woman named Sarah discovers her brother has disappeared while fighting on Earth, she goes on the hunt to find him on Earth. She changes her name to Liasare and runs into trouble in no time flat. She is found by a man named Jurek who is much more than he seems. With Jurek and his team's help, Liasare discovers more than she bargained for that could put her and the Earth's future at risk.

Oh my goodness! This was so good. The story is just insane. Even by the time you hit the 100th page, there is still so much to learn. This book was just action packed. Hargrove does a great job building up the dystopian world of Earth. I love the world she sets for us. It is very dark and gritty. I love the idea behind the Xanthians and how people try to survive with them being the rulers and all. It really added to the intensity of the story for me and made the world more believable and unpredictable.

The characters were thoroughly entertaining. Jurek is book boyfriend worthy. He does have his moments though. He can be very cold one minute and smoldering hot the next. But we do learn why he is the way he is. He has a lot on his plate because he is out hunting for something he may or may not be prepared for. But he will, oh boy he will. He is epic. Plain and simple. Lisare was a fun heroine. She was a bit naïve about the world around her given that she has been on Earth for almost 20 years, so she does have her share of moments as well. Her and Jurek are both pretty strong characters, so when they are together, things are combustible. A lot of the dialogue between them was very entertaining because they butt heads so much. To say I loved them together is an understatement. They really burned up the pages to say the least. Not to mention their back stories were great. I love how we explore Lisare's life and how big of a role her brother played in her life. She really would do anything to get him back. She is definitely an all or nothing kind of gal.

Dark Waltz is definitely a favorite. It was jammed packed with great characters and great twists. This read will keep you on your toes. I could barely put this down and when I did, all I did was think about it. I just learned that this is a spinoff series to Hagrove's Young Adult/New Adult series The Guardians of Vesturon. I have every intention of read that series. It is not absolutely necessary to read that series before you read this, but it seems to actually understand more about the world, well worlds, you should check them out. I know I will. So I have discovered two series I will be stalking all rolled up into one. Epic win! Highly recommended for dystopian, science fiction and paranormal romance fans because this book is all three in one. Do not miss this one.

Due to the daily spam comments I have been getting lately and to avoid the annoying word verification, Anonymous comments are no more. I do not want bargains on bags, watches, jerseys, boots and other crap. Geez, they could at least spam me with book and movie stuff, I would be somewhat interested LOL! Thank you :D
