OBVB: Welcome to Offbeat Vagabond, D. N. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

DNS: When I’m not hunched over a keyboard typing away, I’m usually planted on the sofa watching the other glowing tube. LOL. I love music, movies, wrestling… yeah, I’m a HBK fan. I was born and raised in Chicago, where I reside today. When I’m not writing, I teach adults with developmental disabilities daily living skills, such as math, reading, art and coping skills.

OBVB: When did you realize you wanted to be an author?

DNS: When I was 11 years old, I started writing short horror stories to which I’d read to my homeroom class. They enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed writing them. I knew then, this was my dream, to entertain with words.

OBVB: What first attracted you to Paranormal Romance?

DNS: Vampires. Sexy, stalking, deadly and gorgeous vampires. Then I started to get into werewolves and their animal magnetism. I’ve seen so many vampire and werewolf movies and read tons of books featuring the two.

OBVB: Who are your influences? Who are you loving right now?

DNS: Anne Rice was a huge influence for me. Her vampire stories were completely original. I mean, where have you heard of another book like the Tale of the Body Thief? Her writing would just flow and take you on a glorious adventure that was as erotic as it was horrific. As for right now, I am enjoying Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress Series and I’m looking forward to Ian’s book as he’s my favorite character from her world. :D

OBVB: Do you have any special rituals or anything you must do before or while writing?

DNS: The only ritual I indulge in is listening to one song repeatedly while writing. It keeps me in the “zone”, so to speak.

OBVB: What was the most challenging thing about getting published?

DNS: Editing. LOL. But I think I found the perfect editing partner with my current editor, or rather she found me.

OBVB: Can you tell us what Desires Unleashed is about?

DNS: Desires Unleashed is the beginning of the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles. There’s a murder of the supernatural kind, or so that’s what it seems. In any case, the Supernatural Unit Investigation Team has been assigned to investigate, there are the ones equipped to deal with the criminals of the supernatural community. Meanwhile, we’re introduced to other characters who will play a part in solving the case, but you have to read the book to find out who and why. I don’t want to spoil anything. :D

I wanted to focus on several characters the series will continue to grow around. The first half of the book is all about allowing the reader to get to know these characters. What’s important to them, what motivates them and pisses them off. It gives the reader a chance to connect with the characters as they embark on the journey with them. And let me tell you, the journey gets wilder and more exciting with each new book.

OBVB: Where did the idea of the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles series come from?

DNS: You ever read a book where it’s good, but not quite there? Something was missing for you, either scenario-wise or a relationship that never formed but you wished it had? That’s how the KOTDC was formed. I had read many wonderful PNR/UF books out there, but I hadn’t come across the one that would fill my void. I knew the type of story that I wanted to read, so I wrote it. I decided to publish the KOTDC because I wanted to entertain the readers of the genre who are looking for something different like I was.

OBVB: I love all the men you had in Desires Unleashed, who is your favorite?

DNS: LOL! Boy, they are sexy and masculine, aren’t they? I don’t have a favorite. I just can’t narrow it down because they are all so powerful in their individual personalities. Some are arrogant, funny, brash, charming, all are intelligent and fearless. Not to mention more men are introduced as the series goes along that will just have you melting.

OBVB: I love your characters so much. If Desires Unleashed were made into a film, who can you see as your characters?

DNS: What author doesn’t fantasize about that special day? I believe the KOTDC would make one hell of a vampire movie! It would be epic. I have a few pictures on my Facebook page of some select actors that have caught my eye. Tyler Hoechlin would make a wonderful Warren. Jesse Williams would be a perfect Adrian. Ian Somerhalder has been nominated by my readers to play Darian. I also picked Tom Welling for that role. Joe Manganiello He could be Matthew or Daniel. Really, I just want him in the movie, he’s so hot! LOL. Jensen Ackles for John Fallon… that’s about all for now. I’m sure more would come to mind soon.

Tyler Hoechlin as "Warren"

Jesse Williams as "Adrian"
Ian Somerhalder as "Darian"
Joe Manganiello as "Matthew or Daniel"
Jensen Ackles as "John Fallon"

OBVB: When you are not writing, what do you do in your free time?

DNS: Watch TV/Movies, hang with friends, I like to relax and have fun.

OBVB: You have great taste in movies and TV, what is your absolute favorite TV show and movie?

DNS: Oh, thank you! I don’t have one favorite TV show or movie. I can narrow my TV shows to five.

1. Dexter

2. Spartacus

3. Supernatural

4. Person of Interest

5. Walking Dead

Now, I watch more shows then these, but these are my top favs. As for a favorite movie, I have a few.
1. Terminator 2
2. Interview with the Vampire
3. Fright Night
4. Beaches
5. Joy Luck Club

OBVB: Are there any projects you have coming up that you can tell us about?

DNS: I do have a project I’m working on right now, but I like to keep it hush-hush for the time being until I release a sneak peak. :D I’m a tease that way.

OBVB: Last but not least, what is your New Years' Resolution?

DNS: To be true to myself and try my best to make the right decisions.

OBVB: Thank you so much for stopping by hon. I can't wait to have you here again.

DNS: Thank you, it was a pleasure. :D

  1. Tale of the Body Thief is awesome... actually the entire series is THE benchmarks for any vampire book out there. I live HBK too! Funny I was just watching this special with my son about him & Bret Hart on netflix earlier.

  5. Oh Great interview. And some lovely picks for the men. ;) Thank you!

  6. Very fun interview! Loving the photos too (I may have spent a while...looking at them).

  7. Hi,

how did you decide how many books would be in the series?

  8. @Mary Preston

Thank you so much for your interest in my series.

I knew how many stories I wanted to write for the series. Each book builds on the last and each new tale brings with it a new threat that is more dangerous than the one before it, giving my heroes more complex challenges. I like to call it a "Crescendo of Violence", so to speak. Book six hits a certain peak and at that point, I knew it was a right time to end the KOTDC. It's so perfectly complete.

However, I love the characters so much, I'm not entirely done with them yet. :D

  9. @Braine TS I will definitely be checking out that series. Thank you ladies. I love HBK. That was a great documentary. I have seen about 2-3 times.

@Melliane Thank you hon. I am glad you enjoyed it. It is a great series and you have to check out Dexter. It is such a great series. One of my favorites as well.

@Lelani Black I love them too. My eyes tear up every time I look at them. Just a gorgeous bunch.

@Barbara E. Thank you hon. I hope you start it soon. This is a great PNR read. It is awesome.

@Melissa (My words and pages) Thanks hon. How can you not love those men? LOL! You are welcome hon. Glad I found some awesome pics LOL!

@meradeth Glad you enjoyed it hon. Can't say I blame you hon. I did as well just putting this together LOL!

@Mary Preston Thank you for the comment hon. Hope you check these out :D

@dn simmons I love that. The "Crescendo of Violence" is a great name. I can't wait to see where that goes. It will be awesome. Thank you so much for everything hon :D

Thank you all for the great comments ladies *hugs*

  10. @LindaRocks Well you will definitely like this hon. Thank you for the comment hon :D

Due to the daily spam comments I have been getting lately and to avoid the annoying word verification, Anonymous comments are no more. I do not want bargains on bags, watches, jerseys, boots and other crap. Geez, they could at least spam me with book and movie stuff, I would be somewhat interested LOL! Thank you :D
