Valkyrie Slumbering Tour - Interview and Review: Valkyrie Slumbering (#1) by L. Vanhorn

Hello Vagabonds! Now I now the banner might have you panting a bit, but calm yourself. Please give a huge welcome to author L. Vanhorn. Vanhorn is a new author and she is on tour with her debut, Valkyrie Slumbering. She is here today to talk about her work and what is next in her erotic fantasy romance series.

OBVB: Welcome to Offbeat Vagabond, Lilly! To start things off, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
LV: Sure sweetie. Thanks for having me! I've been writing for many years and have multiple books published with a different small press under a pseudonym (a girl's gotta have her secrets). My first erotic fantasy, Valkyrie Slumbering, just released and the sequel, Valkyrie Awakening, releases in the fall. Both are with Inferno Publishing.

OBVB: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
LV: When I was about thirteen. I didn’t like the way fairy tales ended so I wanted to rewrite them.

OBVB: What first attracted you to Paranormal Romance?
LV: Everything! LOL! Honestly, it was the genre that seemed to have the most powerful female characters and I loved that.

OBVB: What was the most challenging thing you had to face when publishing your book?
LV: The decision with where to submit. There are quite a few small presses out there that gobble up erotic romance, but not all of them do much for the author. Choosing can be scary.

OBVBValkyrie Slumbering is your first book, right? Can you tell us what it is about?
LV: Sort of… ;) Steamy nights in ancient Iceland, a search for vengeance, and creatures from Midgard complicating the whole matter. Rich in Viking lore, this fantasy novella will appeal to those who enjoy romance, fantasy, and erotica.

OBVB: Where did the idea of your book come from?
Courtesy of Out
LV: Honestly, from watching Thor. Chris Hemsworth is oh so inspiring. But I’ve always loved Norse legends.

OBVB: Who were your muses for Kyra and Grim?
LV: For Kyra it was mostly artwork, no living person. For Grim, definitely Chris Hemsworth.

OBVB: What genre would you like to write that isn't your own and why?
LV: I’d love to write a horror novel some day. Stephen King was one of my first favorite authors and inspired me early on.

OBVB: When you are not writing, what do you do in your free time?
LV: I’m an outdoor kind of chick. Hiking, horseback riding, snowboarding, kayaking, swimming…

OBVB: Is there anything you must have or do when you start writing?
LV: Not really, but coffee helps.

OBVB: Last but not least, I know you are working on Valkyrie Awakening, the sequel to Valkyrie Slumbering, can you tell us what to expect? Are there any other projects you are working on?
LV: It’s going to be a bit different than the first novel, deeper. No pun intended. Okay, maybe a little. Kyra and Grim will have to find their way back to one another after facing up to their own demons. I’m working on a novel about a Succubus and a novella about a werewolves that will be out this summer.

OBVB: Thank you so much for visiting Offbeat Vagabond hon. Hope to have you here again.
LV: Thank you for having me over, it was my pleasure!

Synopsis from Goodreads

After the murder of her father, Kyra's heart is consumed by the need for revenge. The hunt is all that matters. But a chance crossing of paths with the alluring and mysterious Grim threatens to derail her focus and her quest. Something about him draws her in, melts her walls, and speeds her heart. Like her, he is half Alfhiem, but it's more than that. He's funny, considerate, and treats her as an equal even in battle, something most of the Vikings of her native homeland would never do.

Steamy nights is one thing, but Kyra can't allow her heart to become wrapped up with anyone, not until she finds and kills the man who murdered her father. Traveling across the countryside with Grim, though, challenges her resolve in more ways than she thought possible. She still hungers for the hunt but that hunger begins to dim in comparison to the one that grows inside her for Grim.

Creatures that could only be from the legendary land of Midgard interrupt their hunt again and again, creatures that shouldn't exist in this realm. Soon it becomes unclear whether or not Kyra and Grim are the hunters, or the hunted. But who would hunt them, and why?

Valkyrie Slumbering follows a strong and determined woman named Kyra. Kyra is half human/half-elf and some people don't take to kindly of her kind. This is why she is on the hunt. Someone killed her father and she is out for revenge. While on her mission, she meets a half-human/half-elf man named Grim. They have an instant connection and can't seem to stay away from each other. Together, they travel to go to a contest thrown by the king. The only people that would go are criminals and Kyra believes that is the perfect place to find the man she has been searching for. While heading to the contest, not only are Kyra and Grim growing closer, but they soon uncover they have quite a few things in common. But their connection may have big and dangerous results.

My goodness what a sexy read. It will definitely have you panting. I loved our main characters Grim and Kyra. Kyra is a very strong woman. She is quite a badass in this book and it was a lot of fun seeing her take down all the big bad guys. It was awesome. Grim was a badass as well too and insanely sexy. The sex scenes were quite racy between them. The language may a bit for some people, but it wasn't too racy.

I liked this story a lot. I loved all the Nordic folklore that was thrown into the story. I loved how it related to Kyra and Grim. The story was a lot more action packed than I thought it would be and made me enjoy the book even more. I love the manhunt and where it ended up. The ending was quite bittersweet, but there is more and I am dying for it.

I recommend this read for those who want a quick, sexy, and exciting read. It is full of Nordic legends, very steamy scenes, and action. The story is well written and well put together. I am very excited for the next book. Definitely go and check this out.

Due to the daily spam comments I have been getting lately and to avoid the annoying word verification, Anonymous comments are no more. I do not want bargains on bags, watches, jerseys, boots and other crap. Geez, they could at least spam me with book and movie stuff, I would be somewhat interested LOL! Thank you :D
