Making a deal with the bad guys wasn’t the highlight of Rena Collins’ semester, but hey, it saved her boyfriend. Now, in order to appease the human-altering organization known as ERA, she’ll crawl under their microscope while they study the Mark of Nexus and plot their eye-glazed version of the future--until she realizes that’s not all they’re plotting.

Wallace Blake has always known his girlfriend is unlike most girls. But now that information has surfaced regarding the two bloodlines that balance his supernatural race, he finally understands why. Rena belongs to one of them. She’s been augmenting his power, all along...

Enter: Corynn Catley. Brought into the country under the guise of an internship, she’s intended to become ERA’s secret weapon. Kind of. Her abilities cancel out Wallace’s, rendering him powerless, but that’s exactly what he’s always wanted. Too bad it only works when his girlfriend’s not around.

All the while, Rena fails to notice the crush her geeky best friend, Aiden Ross, is nursing. He’d give anything for her to see him in a new light--even reinvent himself through questionable means--but there’s a reason people are told to be careful what they wish for. Finding the courage to tell her could put everyone’s lives in danger.

Courage takes place after Strength. Rena and Wallace are together and very happy. They still have an issue with Wallace's immense strength, but they are taking it one step at a time. That doesn't last long when Rena is summoned by Faye, she is the leader to ERA (Evolution Requires Action). They want to create a utopia and the only way to do that is through Wallace and Rena. But after some investigating, they realize that Faye has much bigger plans for them and those they love.

Courage is the amazing sequel in Carrie Butler's Mark of Nexus series and what a sequel it is. I am head over heels for the New Adult genre and Butler makes me love it more. Courage is full of mystery, betrayal, romance, badassary, and well, courage. Once you start this, you won't be able to put it down.

Rena and Wallace are still to die for. I love Rena's wittiness and lack of filter. If something is on her mind, you will hear about it. She is a great heroine. I love rooting for her. And Wallace, oh Wallace! I am so in love with that man. Why can't guys like him exist in real life? I love his way with words. He had me smiling within the first couple of pages of this book. I love how much he loves Rena and those around him. He is so scared to touch anything or anyone because of his strength. I love how much he has changed due to Rena. He was quite sheltered due to ability and it is so great seeing him out of his shell.

I love how this book is split between four different POVs. Butler handles all four very well. I knew exactly who was who without being told because everyone has a certain voice. We even follow Aiden in this book. He was a side character from Strength who I really enjoyed, cute and nerdy. But you won't believe where things go for him. My jaw dropped. We are also introduced to a new character named Corynn who I actually liked. I liked her sassy and spunky ways. I did feel bad for her because of the situation she was put in and her not being fully aware just how bad those guys are. She has been brought in by ERA because of her special abilities that can be used against (well, on) Wallace.

I really loved this story and how well put together it was. Butler can really pack a punch. She doesn't really waste anytime throwing us a curveball. I love that with each chapter we find something new. Faye is crazier than we originally thought and she wants to bring everyone into her madness. She will go any length to make this "perfect world". What she has planned is huge and very scary.

I loved everything about this book even Cole. Cole is Wallace's twin brother who is not always put in the best light. As a matter of fact, you will hate him when you first meet him in Strength, but you will warm up to him. He is the original pain-in-the-ass, but you will love him, trust me. But everything about this book was great. The chemistry between Rena and Wallace is off the charts. I love seeing them together. The buildup and pacing are perfect. I loved trying to put the puzzle pieces together. The mystery was great and kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters are well fleshed out and are easy to connect with. I highly recommend this read if you are looking for a New Adult read with a kick. Definitely putting this on the favorites list and you will too.

About Carrie Butler
Carrie daydreamed her way through college—until they thrust a marketing degree into her hands, slapped a summa cum laude seal on the corner, and booted her out into a less-than-stellar job market. Instead of panicking at the prospect of unemployment, she used her Midwestern logic to steer into the skid and point her life in the direction she really wanted to go: writing out those daydreams.
Her passion for New Adult fiction led her to co-found NA Alley—a widely recognized informational hub for the category. She is the author of STRENGTH (Mark of Nexus #1) and COURAGE (Mark of Nexus #2).
