10 Things You Didn't Know About the His Wicked Games series

  1. The first book in my series (His Wicked Games) was the fourth book I’ve ever written but the first to see the light of day. (It’s also the first one I’ve ever written for people over the age of eighteen.)
  2. His Wicked Games started as a project for National Novel Writing Month. (It ended up taking seven months to complete—but I’ve gotten a lot faster since then!)
  3. I imagine Calder Cunningham as looking like a cross between Stuart Reardon and Henry Cavill.
  4. When I sat down to write His Wicked Games, I only had one “must write” scene in mind—I knew I wanted to write a sex scene in a hedge maze. (Still not sure where that came from…) The funny thing is, the version of that scene that appears in the final copy of His Wicked Games was significantly edited for pacing reasons (but maybe that’s just an opportunity for me to offer a “extended look” later down the road?) ;)
  5. The working title of His Wicked Games was Beastly Intentions. It made sense at the time because that first novel was inspired by Beauty and the Beast—but when it came down to it, I was afraid that Beastly Intensions sounded too much like a paranormal/shifter romance, so I ended up changing it.
  6. The Cunningham mansion and grounds are loosely based on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina—except I imagine the Cunningham house itself being a little more Gothic in style.
  7. I used to work as a pastry chef, which is why you find lots of detailed descriptions of food in my books—I can’t help it! (Maybe I’ll release a His Wicked Games cookbook in the future?)
  8. The name “Barberville” (which I use for the city near the Cunningham estate) is a subtle homage to Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, who wrote one of the earliest versions of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale (a subtle callback to the early roots of His Wicked Games). Otherwise, I purposefully avoid naming any major cities or locations because I want to give readers more freedom to imagine the story wherever they like. (I suspect, though, that any detail-orientated readers might notice I default to descriptions that suggest the books take place in the southern United States).
  9. The most popular scene in the series (based on reader feedback) is the gallery scene in the first book. The secret passageway scene comes in a close second.
  10. His Wicked Games was originally only planned as two books, but since people asked for more closure for Lily and Calder—and because I cut one of the subplots from Truth or Dare for pacing reasons—I decided to release the novella Sweet Victory. It also gives me the perfect opportunity to bridge into the spin-off series (which I’d been bouncing around in my head for a while).

About Ember Casey

Ember Casey is a twenty-something writer who lives in Atlanta, Georgia in a den of iniquity (or so she likes to tell people). When she's not writing steamy romances, you can find her whipping up baked goods (usually of the chocolate variety), traveling (her bucket list is infinite), or generally causing trouble (because somebody has to do it).

Due to the daily spam comments I have been getting lately and to avoid the annoying word verification, Anonymous comments are no more. I do not want bargains on bags, watches, jerseys, boots and other crap. Geez, they could at least spam me with book and movie stuff, I would be somewhat interested LOL! Thank you :D
