Synopsis from Goodreads

She has a destiny so great that even the gods fear her.

Constant hallucinations and the frequent conversations with the voices in her head, have earned eighteen-year-old Chloe Clever the not-so-coveted title of "Whack Job" in her home town of Adel, Georgia. With the onslaught of prescription medications and therapists threatening to push her over the edge, she wishes for a life far away from the one she has, a life where she is destined to be more than the butt of everyone's jokes and mockery.

Be careful what you wish for has never rung more true.

After living through an attack from her worst nightmare, she awakens to find herself far from home, surrounded by glorious riches and servants…and a few demigods who enjoy killing things. Upon learning that her favorite rockstar is an Olympian god, she is thrust into her new life as the Oracle of Delphi, the prophesier of the future, and the great Pythia that the gods have been anxiously awaiting to arrive for centuries. Setting out to fulfill the prophecy she has been given and to keep her family safe from a demigod Princess that wants her dead, Chloe learns of how great she is to become, all the while fighting mythical monsters, evading divine assassins and trying to outwit the ever-cunning Greek gods who harbor secrets of their own. In the hopes of discovering the Most Beautiful and the truth of her destiny, she strives to uncover the mysteries of the demigod Prince who has sworn to protect her with his life…and threatens to win her heart in the process.

Prophecy of the Most Beautiful is a story that follows a girl named Chloe. Chloe knows she is not like other teenage girls and her difference gets her in trouble, big time. When pretty much forced to leave school, she experiences something very tragic. That tragedy has led her into a world she never thought existed. She is now living amongst the gods, well Demigods, and Chloe finds out that she is one of them. The hallucinations that have been giving her hell all her life are scenes from the future. This newfound discovery has made her popular, so popular other gods want to kill her. She has to find out who wants kill her and how she can fulfill the destiny that has been  thrown at her feet.

I love books on Greek mythology and Jones has done an incredible job mixing Greek mythology with her own ideas. I love the world she created for us. The story was well paced. It does start a bit slow at first, but it picks up when Chloe starts interacting with the other Demigods. The Demigods know Chloe is one of them and they need to uncover what. Assassins have been sent to kill Chloe and they need to find out why. There is something going on that they don't want Chloe to know about. There was so much action thrown in this book. I didn't expect that. It made the book that much more fun.

I liked Chloe in the book. I loved the way she clicked with the characters especially Ace. Ace isn't the love interest, but he was a favorite for me in the book. I loved his personality. He cracked me up and was quite the badass. Our love interest was Stafford. I really liked him. He is Ace's older brother who is an even bigger badass. It took awhile for me to get into the romance between him and Chloe. They were so busy trying to stay ahead of the enemies, we didn't get a whole lot of them together. I hope we get more in the next book. The book did a great job  I loved a lot of the side characters in the book. I loved Swindle and his bird, Bill. Swindle was such a smartass, he kept a smile on my face.

Overall, this is a great read. The mythology in the book adds so many layers and is easy to follow. Greek mythology has always been a favorite subject of mine and seeing gods we know of acting like modern, everyday people was a lot of fun. I had a blast with Cupid and Aphrodite and their marriage issues. This was a very fun read, full of action and laughs. I love how it ended. I am definitely hungry for the sequel. This is a wonderful YA read worth checking out.

Synopsis from Goodreads

When Lana Bloom learns the devastating news that her mother is dying, she is faced with a terrible dilemma. The one thing that can save her is the one thing she does not have.
For young and Innocent Lana, The unthinkable is her only choice.

When she walks through the door of that exclusive restaurant she has no idea of the seismic shift her life is about to take, for the highest bidder will not be the rich man she has accompanied.

Fate drops her at the feet of the deeply mysterious and dazzlingly gorgeous American banker, Blake Law Barrington. Throbbing with raw masculinity and arrogance, this is a man who owns all that he pursues.

And now he wants her.

Lana cannot deny she is both intrigued and intoxicated by the world Blake inhabits and the smouldering passion he stirs in her body, but she is also fearful for this man is addictive and right now she is very vulnerable. She knows she should focus only on the arrangement, but how can she?

When he has opened a door that cannot be closed…

The Billionaire Banker is a story that follows a young woman's desperate attempt to save her mother. Lana has just been let go from her job and doesn't have the money that could save her mother's life from cancer. Doctors say she doesn't have a lot of time left and so Lana must get money fast ans sadly, there is only one way. Lana's first attempt to sell herself to a rich man is worse then she ever would have imagined. She is somehow saved by an even richer man named Blake who has been watching her all night. They soon reach an agreement. It is strictly business, but it soon turns into something they both deny. Even if they were to talk about their feelings to one another, Blake's family and tragedy both get in the way before they can be together. And maybe it is for the best.

Oh goodness gracious. My heart is still pounding. I finished this book in a day. It was hard to put down. This is Le Carre's debut and it is one hell of a debut. I loved everything about this book. I was so in love with Lana. For her to go to such depths to save her mom was just heartbreaking. She is very innocent and has a lot to learn, but that doesn't take away anything from her. She has a mind of her own and is always looking out for what is best for her family. I loved a lot of the conversations between her and Blake. The debates on the differences between the rich and the poor were fascinating. Lana said one quote that I thought was so wise and beyond her nineteen years of age.

"I learned that a successful parasite is one that is not recognized by its host, one that can make its host work for it without appearing as a burden. As such it must be the ruling class in every capitalist society that is the real parasite." pgs. 139-140

I loved that. I also really loved Blake. I wasn't sure about him at first, but I started slowly falling for him too. He definitely is hiding a lot of things and it is mainly about his family. We meet a couple of them along with the people they run with, they are atrocious to say the least. The last couple of chapters had me screaming at my ereader, "No no no no no, you bitch, don't you dare!" You will be screaming the same thing too, trust me. But this story was both growth for Lana and Blake. Lana doesn't know much about the world because she focuses everything on her mother. Through Lana, Blake is slowly starting to open his eyes and see how blinded he has been and how wrong his family's way of thinking is. I felt really bad for him especially after meeting his father.

I also loved Lana's friends, Billie and Jack. Billie was a riot. That girl does not have a filter and I love it. She was a great friend to Lana and always there to help her. Same thing for Jack. He is more of a brother to Lana, but Lana's mom definitely thought there would be more between them. I did like the chemistry between them, but they did feel like they were more related even though they are not. But I love how protective he is of her and how he does understand her situation even though he doesn't like it.

The pacing of the story was just perfect and I love how it turns out. Do not go into this thinking it is a sweet and sexy romance. Oh no, there is a lot of dirt and shit these two have to tread through before they get to the sweet part. The ending of this book is a clear indication of that. There is a lot more at play than I first thought and more than the characters realize. Blake and Lana have entered this 3-month agreement in exchange for Lana getting enough money to pay for her mom's treatment. They both know this is temporary and it will lead to nothing. He expects to be bored of Lana like his other conquests, but they both see something more in each other. They come from two completely different worlds. Lana is barely making ends meet and Blake comes from old money. He was born into privilege. But events and certain people get in the way of things really progressing between them. I am dying to see how this plays out. Like I said, they have no idea that there is more going on behind their backs.

Overall, it may be January. But this is easily going on my list for favorite reads of 2014. It was just so good. The characters have such vast personalities and they are quite lovable. The story surpassed my expectations and more. I happily have my copy of Forty 2 Days which I will be cracking open tonight. Thank you Le Carre for not having us sit on that ending. It would have drove me over the edge. It isn't a cliffhanger ending, but more of a "shit just hit the fan" kind of ending. This book will put you at the edge of your seat. I am officially hooked. Do not miss this read, you will regret it.

Release Day Blitz + Giveaway: The Genesis Project (New Earth #1) by Tigris Eden

Author: Tigris Eden
Series: New Earth
Number in Series: 1
Release Date: January 28, 2014
Publisher: Kats Kreative Ideas
 Genre: Romance/Science Fiction

Synopsis from Tigris Eden
Old earth has been deemed unsuitable for life, New Earth is home. With the Uni-Wars over, races have joined together in order to sustain their way of life. All life was considered worth saving, but only one race failed to submit. Humans.

Now extinct, humans are a thing of the past. The people of New Earth won’t acknowledge their hand in their eradication, but they have benefited from it. Dr. Vaggo Blackmore has found the answer, he’s restored his races way of life- sustenance through farming. The one thing that will give them back their long lives….. Blood, human blood.

Biologically engineered in a lab, Genesis Blackmore has always been different. Her father has told her it’s due to her enhancements, the Federated Council sees her as a genetic mutation; and her fellow peers see her as the shiny new toy. Gen has had better days.

Everyone on New Earth has milky white skin, platinum blonde hair, and electric blue eyes. It’s the norm. Genesis’ glossy, black hair, ice blue eyes ringed by gold, would have almost made her socially acceptable- if it wasn’t for her golden skin and blue, gold veins. In a sea of milky white she alone is the dark anomaly.

All Pars get their life’s nourishment through blood plasma. All Pars find their match through the tasting. Gen can do neither, forbidden by her father to do so. She can neither taste, nor be tasted. Something that’s never bothered her until now.

There is really not much to say... I love to write, read, and listen to music. My attempt at a music career sadly ended at the Apollo one warm night in May. LOL (Side note: I was not booed just outdone by two munchkins rapping to Biggy Smalls, they were good.
Military brat extraordinaire; have traveled to a lot of interesting places.  This February I will be going over to the other side of the pond where I will spend two weeks in Europe.  I will be in Cambridge, London, Paris, Versailles, Bruges, and hopefully Cardiff.
The very first time I put pen to paper in story fashion (for fun), was in 6th grade.  The story was called, The Case of The Missing Pepperoni. It was a cute mystery where all the ingredients and shop appliances came to life when the store owner closed up for the evening.  See, pretty boring stuff. I always say I'm not the interesting one, but the people around me.

Synopsis from Goodreads
Treason, betrayal, and heartbreak.

A lot can happen to a girl between her first kiss and her first kill.
It’s 100 years since the Genetic Integrity Act was passed and America closed its borders to prevent genetic contamination. Now only the enemy, dysgenic Deviants, remain beyond the heavily guarded border. The Department of Evolution carefully guides the creation of each generation and deviations from the divine plan are not permitted.

When 16-year-old Jess begins to show signs of deviance she enlists in the Special Forces, with her best friend Jay, in a desperate bid to evade detection by the Devotees. Jess is good with data, not so good with a knife. So when the handsome and secretive Sergeant Matt Anderson selects her for his Black Ops squad, Jess is determined to figure out why.

As her deviance continues to change her, Jess is forced to decide who to trust with her deadly secret. Jess needs to know what’s really out there, in the Deviant wasteland over the border, if she has any hope of making it to her 17th birthday. Because if the enemy doesn’t kill her first, the Department of Evolution probably will.

External Forces is a Dystopian read that follows a girl named Jess. Jess lives in a world the genetics mean everything. If you show signs of being inferior, you are quickly taken care of. They are called Deviants. America has built a wall around itself to block out the inferior genes. They do not want "cross-contamination". Jess wants to be on the Special Forces that help protect America from the Deviants. But she has a secret of her own that is quickly that no one can find out about or else she is done for. While trying her best to make it on the Intelligence team, a certain sergeant has other plans for her. Jess soon realizes there is more going on in the Special Forces and she may be at the very center of it all.

Hello Hollywood!!!! Wake the hell up and make this a movie pronto! Holy crap, this was awesome. This is Rix debut and boy what a debut it was. The world she has created is scary and believable. It really wasn't hard imaging America like this. If that one mad person took over America, this is what we will get. I loved the story Rix has built for us. If you love The Hunger Games and Divergent, you should add this right in that list. It would fit perfectly. Again, this needs to be a movie.

I really loved Jess. She is smart and courageous. I loved seeing her progression in this book. Her mom seems to despise her very existence and was relieved when Jess leaves. Jess and her best friend, Jay, are great together. They were like brother and sister. I love how they look out for each other. Jess makes friends with a badass chick named Sheree, who I loved as well. I couldn't stop laughing when Sheree and Jay got so territorial over Jess. That was a lot of fun. I was a big fan of Matt in this book. He is the leader of the Black Ops team and he has an eye for Jess. Not only does her like her spunk and that he sees that she has a mind of her own which could get her killed. He takes her under his wing because she would be the perfect member for his team. He has something planned and he can't do it without her. I loved the scenes between them. Matt is definitely drool worthy.

Again, this worldbuilding is amazing. This book hooked me from the first page. Jess is not your regular girl and her not being normal could be a catastrophe for her. She wants to be in the Special Forces so she can avoid the Devotees. The Devotees will recheck her genes for any signs of being a Deviant and will eliminate her. There is a mark showing up on her body that the Department of Evolution will not like. She knows this is the best way to protect herself and her secret. But it may not be enough as it seems she is being watched.

Overall, this is a fantastic read. It has quite an interesting twist leading up to the end. But every part of this book was amazing. The characters all have strong personalities and are very memorable. I love the character development and the connection between all of them. The villains in the book are also very interesting and some I just didn't see coming. This book was full of action. There is not a dull moment insight. This book will keep you at the edge of your seat. You have to read this book. This is a can't miss kind of read. Highly recommended.

About Deborah Rix
Deborah Rix’s favourite position for reading a book is head almost hanging off the couch and feet up in the air with legs against the back of the couch. She’s been reading too much from Scientific American for research and ideas and needs to get back to some fiction. She has a long standing love of science fiction, some of her favourite authors include William Gibson, Philip K Dick, Kurt Vonnegut Jr, Douglas Adams, Iain M Banks. A bit old school.
Deborah enjoyed a successful career in entertainment publicity, live music promotion and event management. Which means she slogged through muddy fields for music festivals, was crammed into concert halls with too many sweaty teenage boys and got to go to Tuktoyaktuk (that’s in the Arctic Circle) for a Metallica concert. She lives with her family in Toronto, Canada, where she is the proprietor of The Lucky Penny, a neighborhood joint in Trinity-Bellwoods.
External Forces is her first novel.
